Celebrating the Holidays

There are so many different ways to celebrate the holidays! Some people like to spend time with family, others like to decorate their homes, and still others like to travel. No matter how you choose to celebrate, the holidays are a time to enjoy the company of loved ones and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Family Traditions

One of the best things about the holidays is being able to spend time with family and friends. If you have young children, they may enjoy helping you decorate the tree or make holiday cookies. You can also start new traditions, such as watching a holiday movie together. One of our family traditions is to ride around town seeing Christmas Lights with a cup of hot cocoa! Of course, perhaps you celebrate another holiday such as Hanukkah and that brings on its own special traditions as well. What are your favorite holiday traditions?

Holiday Activities

There are many different ways to celebrate the holidays. Some people go home for the holidays, others like to travel and relax, and others like to participate in holiday activities. Some popular holiday activities include decorating, baking, gift giving (need ideas?! Check out our collections), and attending holiday parties. If you're in colder weather then perhaps you enjoy skiing, snowboarding, or just cozying up next to the fire. Whatever you enjoy doing, there is likely a holiday activity that you will enjoy. So get out there and celebrate!

Giving Back

The holidays are a great time to give back to those less fortunate. You can volunteer at a local soup kitchen or food bank, or donate toys to a children’s hospital. If you have the means, you can also donate money to a charity of your choice. Giving back is a great way to spread holiday cheer and make a difference in your community.

Special Meals

One of the best ways to celebrate the holidays is to enjoy a special meal with your family and friends. This can be a traditional holiday meal, or something more unique that reflects your own personal heritage. Our family has had a special meal that started when my grandfather no longer wanted a "damn ham" for Christmas or at least that is what I've heard the story told :). So in lieu of the ham, my family started having fried shrimp and oysters and became a tradition still loved and enjoyed today. If you're not sure what to make, there are plenty of cookbooks and online recipes available to help you out. Don't forget to include some festive decorations and music to really get into the holiday spirit!

Decorations

One of the best things about the holidays is the decorations! There can never be too much decorations. From stringing lights to putting up a tree, there are so many ways to make your home feel festive. If you’re not sure where to start, try picking a theme. Now that I have my own home, we try to change our decorations each year and have a different theme. It's fun deciding what colors will be this year's and getting to buy new ornaments. Once you have a vision, it will be easier to choose which decorations to use. And don’t forget about the outside of your house! Adding some holiday spirit to your yard will spread the cheer to your whole neighborhood.

However you celebrate, the holidays are a special time and the team at GetGifts wishes you a safe and joyous holiday season!
